Commuter Choices

Bay Area Commuter Services, Inc.
(BACS) is one of the Florida Department of Transportation's nine commuter assistance programs within the state. It is a private, non-profit organization founded and funded by the State of Florida Department of Transportation to promote transportation alternatives to the single-occupant vehicle in the Tampa Bay area and surrounding counties. The agency operates in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando and Citrus counties.

Tax Benefits: A company can reduce its taxable income by subsidizing vanpool and transit riders. Federal and state laws allow employers to offer a non-taxable transportation benefit up to $230 per month per employee. Employees receive the benefit tax-free, and employers get a full tax deduction and do not pay payroll taxes or other costs on the amount provided. Employers can also allow employees to set aside part of their gross income on a pre-tax basis.

Emergency Ride Home (ERH) Program: The ERH program is designed to take the anxiety out of leaving your car at home. Anyone who carpools, vanpools, ride the bus, bikes or walks back and for to work at least two days per week is eligible for the ERH program. This program provides you with a FREE taxi ride home up to eight times per year in an emergency situation (certain restrictions apply). To register, please contact BACS.
