In Part 1 we examined the public realm of the city, that is, the streets, open spaces and civic buildings that give the city its structure.
In Part 2, we will look at the role of the private realm consisting of the privately owned buildings that populate the city center and that add (or detract) from the quality of the urban environment.
Join Michael Huston, urban designer and architect for Civic Plan Studio on Central Avenue and writer for his blog The Empirical City, for this discussion on the design of urban buildings and how to find a balance between private interests and community vision.
