Bayprint, one of St. Petersburg’s most technologically advanced printing companies, is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2012. What started as a downtown copy shop in January of 1982 has grown into a company that integrates print with marketing management to provide customers with a stronger message. A celebration was recently held at Bayprint with clients, friends and city officials.

Al Karnavicius opened Bayprint when customers needed fast, convenient copying. According to Karnavicius, Bayprint president, the communication needs were much simpler 30 years ago. "Over the years the emphasis has been providing fast response to customers’ printing needs,” said Karnavicius. "We have always been innovators.”

Bayprint pioneered digital color printing and was the first printer in St. Petersburg to provide color copies. It also was an early leader in adding online ordering for clients and wide format printing for posters, banners and displays.

The biggest change in printing over the past 30 years, said Karnavicius, has been the impact of computers and the Internet. "Print is no longer the only way for a company to get its message out to its customers. Today, businesses communicate with both print and the web. Bayprint’s services have evolved in parallel with customer needs.”

Much of the interaction between Bayprint and its customers is over the web. "The web is the fastest way to move files from one point to another,” said Karnavicius. "We moved to a new facility in 2007, and upgraded our computer network allowing us to transfer electronic graphic files 10 times faster than before. Customers require 24 hour access and easy, web-based ordering. Because of our technology, we can handle customers from around the world as easily as we handle a customer standing in our lobby.”

Bayprint now offers web design, development and hosting along with graphic design services and email marketing. It integrates mobile marketing and mobile websites to take advantage of the exploding growth of smartphones. "We have expanded our services to use the latest communication tools to make sure our customers are reaching their audience.” said Karnavicius.

Bayprint has been recognized for its innovation and leadership. In 1997, Karnavicius was elected president of the 3000-member national printing trade association, then known as PrintImage International. In 2001, he was named Quick Printing magazine’s and PrintImage’s "Printer of the Year.”

In 2003, Bayprint was invited to join CPRINT ®, an elite association of approximately 100 printing and graphic firms from across the nation dedicated to higher standards. Members are independently-owned businesses that travel to meet in small peer groups and act as Board of Directors for each company.

For 30 years, Bayprint has been an active community partner. Al and Nancy Karnavicius have volunteered or served on numerous boards and committees including: American Stage, Brookwood, Executive Women’s Golf Association, Florida Craftsmen, Kiwanis, St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce and The Arts Center. The Bayprint employees have been volunteers at homeless shelters, Chamber events, spouse abuse shelters, arts fundraisers and children’s educational events.

Bayprint is located at 2235 16th Avenue North, St. Petersburg, FL. The telephone number is 727-823-1965 and the website address is
