Update on Community Relations Position at USF’s St. Petersburg campus

In July, the Partnership invested into its Higher Education priority by partnering with the City of St. Petersburg, the St. Pete Innovation District, and the USF St. Petersburg campus to jointly fund and create a new position in an effort to further strengthen the connection between the city, businesses and the university. Caryn Nesmith, special assistant to the regional chancellor for strategic initiatives on the St. Petersburg campus for the past four years, has been appointed to this role as the campus’ first director of community relations. Since taking on this role, one outlet that Caryn has used to better connect the city, businesses and the university is through the St. Pete Catalyst’s Community Voices, where she has shared the story of important development happening on the USF St. Petersburg campus.

In early December, she shared how for the first time ever, USF is making the St. Petersburg campus the focus of its top legislative request, seeking at least $30 million from the Florida legislature this year as part of the $80 million needed to create the Environmental and Oceanographic Sciences Research & Teaching Facility.
